More Than Just A Towering Smiles

The Smiley icon, or what most people know as the ‘Mr. Smiley’ or the “Have A Nice Day” Smiley, is one of the most popular images in the world. However, there is one city in Illinois that has significantly placed the iconic Mr. Smiley on the map. That city is Calumet City.

Calumet City lies within the Cook County and was founded in 1892. Known as the Cal City, Calumet is primarily

known for its Smiley Towers – two looming water towers that feature the familiar smiling icon. One of the towers is located at the River Oaks Center, while the other one can be seen at the corner of Paxton and Dolton Avenues. These towers have been featured in a number of music videos and films as well as in art covers for various music albums.

Calumet City, however, is more than just the Smiley Towers. In truth, Calumet City also boasts of such tourist attractions as the River Oaks Center, an outdoor mall that opened to the public in 1966. Today, the River Oaks Center houses more than 140 stores including such popular names as JCPenny and Sears.

Calumet City is also strategically located near the Sand Ridge Nature Center, a center that boasts of various exhibits that feature the natural and cultural history of Calumet.

If you are interested in making the most of the Calumet City, your best bet would be to have yourself booked in any of the hotels in Calumet City IL. To make your stay truly memorable, however, you should cut to the chase and head to Baymont Inn and Suites.

Baymont Inn & Suites provide clients with such features and amenities as wireless internet access in public areas, meeting rooms, and business center; access to Laundromat services; use of the indoor heated pool and hot tub; and use of the fitness center.
