Future Electronics Adds “How to Select the Right Light Sensor for Your Application” to Video Series

Montreal, Quebec ( submitpressrelease ) June 7, 2013 – Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has added another how-to video to its series on selecting the best electronic components for various applications. “How to Select the Right Light Sensor for Your Application” has been launched, along with many more helpful tutorials offered through

the company’s YouTube channel.

A light sensor is an electronic device used to detect light. There are many different types of light sensors, each of which works in a slightly different way.

A photocell or photo resistor is a small sensor which changes its resistance when light shines on it. It is used in many consumer products to determine the intensity of light. A CCD, or charged coupled device, transports electrically charged signals and can be found in digital cameras and night-vision devices. Photomultipliers detect light and multiply it.

Devices that include light sensors have several uses in scientific applications and in everyday consumer products. A light sensor may be part of a safety or security device like a garage door opener or a burglary alarm. These devices often work by shining a beam of light from one sensor to another. If this light is interrupted, the garage door won’t close or the alarm will sound. Several modern electronics, including TV’s, computers and wireless phones use ambient light sensors in order to automatically control the brightness of a screen in situations where light intensity is high or low. These light sensors can detect the amount of light in a room and raise or lower the brightness to a more comfortable level. Light sensors can also be used in order to automatically turn on lights outside or inside a business or a home at night. Barcode scanners also work using light sensor technology.
